As I’m so busy these days, I spend my days watching daytime TV, and never miss TMZ. Recently they were making fun of hipsters, which is fair enough, and they flashed up this pictures of a bird with wooden legs that was on the cover of McSweeney’s, and it reminded me of that I had to do this picture.
Now I have no idea about the artist and what their intention are, but it got me thinking about the concept of being trying to be weird and different. So I don’t know if this is based on a real experience or if the artist was just throwing bits in their for effect. I kind of know about this because I annoy myself by doing it was too much.
But I have a friend who when we used to hang out years ago and I would try and be all arty and moody, he desperately tried to act normal, because he’d grown up in trying circumstances. And one of his stories was that he had some budgies in the back yard in cages. But the rats got in and ate them. But one poor little bugger survived but they’d eaten the legs off. So he tried to build a little set of wooden legs for it. Sadly it didn’t work and the little fella went to Budgie heaven. I just thought it was the sweetest thing.
So I was just thinking, as much as I love this picture, is it based on a true story too. Not that it really matters in the end.
